The new horizon, strategic expansion for talent resource specialists

It is no secret that over the past four years, the Oil & Gas industry has suffered its longest downturn in history. Cultural and operational change has been inevitable as companies continue to maintain their tight budgets and relentless focus on efficiencies. Whilst there has been a recovery in oil prices in 2018 and as the industry emerges from the downturn, the sector still faces fundamental challenges, one being the lack of skills and talent required to support Vision 2035 set by the oil and gas industry.

Talent resource specialists Prodrill, a leading name in technical oil and gas recruitment spanning four decades, believes this is the right time to expand its recruitment portfolio across eight key divisions in the upstream environment. Prodrill will now support a variety of clients’ needs across a broader spectrum of disciplines within the drilling services, subsea, engineering, geoscience, completions/well services, decommission/plug & abandonment, operations & maintenance and management support sectors.

To support this expansion, Alan Golightly joined the team in December 2018. With over 20 years’ client management and technical engineering recruitment expertise in the industry. Alan joins a ten strong team at the Aberdeen headquarters as senior resource specialist, enhancing the company’s technical recruitment offering.

Prodrill managing director, Louise Wood, said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of Alan’s calibre to the company; with over 40,000 people potentially entering the industry over the next 20 years, it’s important that we focus on the changing workforce, and how to attract these skills to the industry to support Vision 2035 and beyond.

In the past ten years, Prodrill has supported more than 2000 client projects across 37 countries and as clients continue to evolve and up-skill their workforce it’s imperative that we keep pace with them. Technology and innovation will play a big part in the UKCS workforce requirement in future decades and it’s important to ensure our service offering supports this change. Expanding our areas of recruitment expertise means we are well positioned to support the future job families and job functions that are being currently mapped by industry bodies.

The company who has seen a 20% increase in the amount of onshore and offshore related roles during early 2019, which supports industry sentiment that confidence is returning.

Louise continues: “Human Capital remains critical to our sector and with future changes in legislation surrounding Brexit and IR35 off-payroll reform it’s also important our sector remains focused on how it recruits and engages potential talent for the future landscape.
