Statement on the 13th anniversary of the 2009 Super Puma helicopter incident

Step Change in Safety has paid its respects to the 16 individuals who lost their lives in the Super Puma helicopter incident that occurred off the coast of Peterhead in 2009, as the energy industry marks the 13th anniversary of this tragic event.

Steve Rae, executive director of Step Change in Safety, said: “Although 13 years have passed since the North Sea Super Puma helicopter crash, we continue to think of the families, friends and colleagues of the 14 offshore workers and two pilots who died and know that their memories will never fade.

“Anniversaries such as this offer a reminder to everyone in the energy industry, from the drill site to the boardroom, of the importance of conducting safe operations.  The safety and wellbeing of the entire workforce must always come first.  Step Change in Safety is committed to working with the energy industry to continually improve workforce safety and ensure everyone returns home safely.”
