Scotland’s largest hydrogen conference opens its doors on 14-15 October 2020

Scotland’s largest hydrogen conference opens its doors on 14-15 October 2020

Paul Wheelhouse MSP, the Minister for Energy, Connectivity and the Islands will open the SHFCA2020 annual conference, which this year will be an online event. This is the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association’s 12th annual conference, and will bring together the largest number of participants for a hydrogen & fuel cell conference ever held in Scotland.

SHFCA2020 H2FC Online is free to attend, and brings together an outstanding speaker line-up for real time insights on the developing hydrogen strategies which will enable Scotland to build a working hydrogen economy, as well as opportunities for shared learning and wider partnerships. SHFCA2020 has attracted a record level of interest, with more tha double the number of participants compared to the previous record-breaking SHFCA2019 annual conference which was held in Aberdeen.

Nigel Holmes, Chief Executive of the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell association said: ‘Over the past 12 months the level of activity with hydrogen has increased exponentially. SHFCA2020 will be of particular interest to companies already involved in the energy sector who are exploring opportunities to become involved in the transition to low carbon energy, and specifically for hydrogen supply, infrastructure, and market demand. Hydrogen is evolving rapidly in Scotland, and SHFCA2020 promises to be one of the highlights of this year.’

This year’s SHFCA conference has been made possible through the support of our SHFCA2020 Partners:

SHFCA2020 Part 1 on Wednesday 14 October from 13:30 – 17:00 BST will outline the policy frameworks needed to support a growing hydrogen economy, and building a new supply chain to scale up clean hydrogen production capacity in Scotland. The plenary session will highlight policy leadership and ambitions for hydrogen and fuel cells, with the speakers exploring the importance of cross-sector and international partnership working in the lead up to COP26.  SHFCA2020 Part 2 on Thursday 15 October from 09:30 – 13:00 BST then develops the core SHFCA2020 theme of building a hydrogen economy as part of the post-Covid recovery for Scotland, with sessions on the requirement for hydrogen infrastructure, together with the need to build up the hydrogen demand in local clusters and more widely.

Registered delegates for SHFCA2020 H2FC Online will be sent copies of the speaker slides and links to view recordings of the four conference sessions, which will allow participants to view the proceedings later if they are unable to join any of the sessions on the day.  The SHFCA2020 full programme can be downloaded here:  https://www.shfca.org.uk/shfca-2020-annual-conference

About the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (www.shfca.org.uk)

The Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (SHFCA) is recognised as one of the most proactive hydrogen & fuel cell industry associations in Europe, and brings together industry, city authorities, public sector and academia. SHFCA has over 100 members, with an increasing number now joining from across Europe and overseas who want to become more involved in low carbon and hydrogen activities in Scotland.

In May 2019 the Scottish Government announced the ambition to become Net Zero by 2045. This reinforces Scotland as one of the leading locations for deployment of hydrogen and fuel cell solutions into developing low carbon energy systems. Highlights include the expanding hydrogen bus fleet in Aberdeen and hydrogen vehicles in Glasgow, along with many other innovative projects in locations such as Fife, the Western Isles, and the Orkney Islands. These projects are ‘leading by doing' and are willing to share best practice and experience.

The COP26 climate conference will take place in Glasgow in November 2021. This will provide opportunities to build links and share experience with other countries and regions who are deploying hydrogen and fuel cells as part of the transition to a low carbon energy system for heat, power, and transport.
