Saipem scores $1bn in offshore deals

Italian energy services contractor Saipem has been awarded two new contracts in the Middle East and Brazil worth around $1bn.

Saipem said that the first contract was for EPCI offshore activities in the Middle East while the other was for the development of underwater drones in Brazil.

Under the existing long-term agreement with Saudi Aramco, Saipem was selected for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of five platforms and associated subsea pipelines, flowlines, and cables in the Marjan field, offshore Saudi Arabia

The contract with Saudi Aramco should feature an entirely in-country fabrication scheme. The effectiveness of the contract is subject to the fulfilment of the customary conditions.

Saipem was also awarded a contract by Petrobras for the development and testing of an autonomous subsea inspection robotic solution.

The deal will be based on Saipem’s fleet of underwater drones, starting from the Flatfish AUV, as well as the qualification of related autonomous drone-based services, enabling future inspection contract options offshore Brazil.

“The potential of these subsea technologies within the offshore domain is vast, both for oil and gas developments as well as for the renewables market segment,” Saipem stated in a press release.

This is a good week for Saipem as the company won two new offshore drilling contracts worth around $550m just a few days ago.

The first contract will keep the 2008-built jack-up rig Perro Negro 7 working in the Middle East for 10 more years. The second contract has been secured in the Mediterranean Sea for the 2011-built semisub Scarabeo 9.
