Prosafe make further redundancies to Aberdeen workforce

Offshore vessel owner Prosafe have today revealed that they will be making significant redundancies to their Aberdeen office workforce.

In September this year it was revealed that Prosafe were being investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for the proposed merger with Floatel, as they felt that this would drive up prices to unsustainable levels as the new entity would have a monopoly in the market.

The merger was also being contested in Norway where the Norwegian competition authority (NCA) was also considering contesting the merger.

Karine Cosemans - Senior Manager for Executive Support and Communication said that: “Prosafe confirms that the company is in the process of adjusting the size of its workforce to a lasting and lower activity level in the offshore accommodation market, in the North Sea in particular. This adjustment will to the best extent possible be done through offering voluntary redundancy on good terms.”

With regard to the status on the merger with Floatel, Karine clarified that: "The proposed merger with Floatel needs to be approved by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK, and this process has not been concluded yet. CMA has concluded Phase 1, and we are now in Phase 2. In Norway, the Norwegian Competition Authority rejected the merger and Prosafe has appealed the decision. Neither a positive or negative outcome of the merger process will influence the low activity level for our services."
