Peterson awarded accreditation for occupational health and safety for all Trinidad sites

Leading international energy logistics company, Peterson, has successfully recertified its Trinidad and Tobago operations to four internationally recognised standards, whilst also achieving the international standard ISO 45001:2018 accreditation for occupational health and safety across all Trinidad sites.

ISO 45001 is the new international standard for occupational health and safety (OHS) management systems, replacing the old British standard OHSAS 18001:2007. The new standard provides a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions while focusing on a proactive approach to improving OHS performance.

These certifications underline Peterson’s commitment to be recognised as a global leader in health and safety, by demonstrating compliance with all applicable legislation, including ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 14001:2015 environmental management and ISO 50001:2011 for energy management, creating an impressive portfolio of certifications at international standards.

Keith Dawson, director of HSEQ, Peterson, commented: “Keeping our people safe remains our number one priority and we all recognise the importance of international standards across our business. We are delighted with the continued accreditation to the ISO standards, which now includes our Trinidad and Tobago sites, embedding the standards and practices into our organisation.

“ISO was founded around answering a fundamental question, ‘what's the best way of doing this?’ By implementing all four standards across all our international sites, we firmly believe that our business is incorporating best practice principles, while demonstrating conformity to ISO standards of all our services, and providing assurance in quality, safety and reliability to all our clients.”

Pete Ward, director of operations at Peterson Trinidad and Tobago added: “These are the most widely recognised international standards in the world and aim to underline the company’s ambition to be the leading international energy logistics player. Through following industry best practices and focusing on safety, quality, environmental and energy matters, we aim to deliver increased levels of customer service across all operations. Securing these latest certifications is a mark of our commitment and the importance we place on safety and compliance.”

Alongside these latest accreditations, Peterson continues to strive towards improved procedures through their innovative use of smart technology, which has won the company several industry safety awards. Peterson uses data to identify patterns where safety may be compromised, enabling it to be managed proactively.
