OMV concludes Hades discovery size estimate near Morvin field

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has reported that OMV Norway, operator of production licence (PL) 644, has reduced the size estimated of its Hades gas/condensate discovery in the Norwegian Sea.

OMV has reduced the size estimate following the drilling of the appraisal well 6506/11-12 S on the 6506/11-10 (Hades) gas/condensate discovery.

In May, OMV said it was set to drill this appraisal well after receiving an offshore safety approval and a drilling permit from the NPD.

OMV serves as the operator with a 30% interest in PL 644. Other partners include DNO (20%), Equinor (40%), and Spirit Energy (10%).

The well was drilled 240km north-west of Kristiansund and approximately 5km west of the Morvin oil and gas field, which is located 200km offshore the Norwegian North Sea in production licence 134b.

According to NPD, the well encountered an interpreted gas column of around eight meters in the Lange Formation.

NPD noted that the gas/water contact was not encountered directly.

NPD stated: “The operator’s preliminary estimate of the size of discovery 6506/11-10 (Hades) is between two and seven million standard cubic metres (Sm³) of recoverable oil equivalents.

“The licensees in production licence 644/644 B will assess the updated resources in 6506/11-10 (Hades) along with resources in the Middle Jurassic (Garn Formation) in the same discovery well, 6506/11-10 (Iris), for further follow-up.

“The well was not formation tested, but extensive data acquisition was carried out.”

The well has been drilled by Island Innovator semi-submersible rig. The rig will now move to Hanøytangen shipyard.
