North East recruitment firm wins Entrepreneurial award

A north-east business that created an online talent platform for energy sector professionals is celebrating winning the ‘Unlocking Ambition award’ , presented by Scottish Enterprise.

The idea for Nudge evolved during founder, Darren Nicol’s, studies at Strathclyde University and launched in June of this year.

The Unlocking Ambition business programme from Scottish Enterprise selected a number of innovative businesses throughout Scotland for its 2021/22 cohort.

The businesses joining this year’s programme were specifically chosen for their potential to contribute to Scotland’s journey towards a net-zero economy.

As one of the chosen businesses, Nudge will receive a grant and mentoring to help continue its growth.

Speaking on the award win, Darren said: “I am delighted to win this award, it’s been a challenging time for the energy sector, but there are so many amazing projects on the horizon. This program will help us develop our skills and formalise our growth strategy.

We will also use the cash grant to develop our product road map that will further challenge and innovate the recruitment process and support our customers as they themselves manage the energy transition.”

“The judges loved the fact that we are carbon neutral and purpose driven, which is demonstrated by our commitment to becoming the sectors first B_Corp.”

Darren feels that ‘Going B corp’ is how it should be, businesses as a force for good and looking ahead with the award win, Darren is optimistic about the future for Nudge and the possibilities he can potentially tap into with the business.

“Purpose driven businesses like ourselves are ready to lead the economic recovery from Covid-19 by building back better, hence the importance of Unlocking Ambition,” he said.

“We have been developing the platform during the last 18 months at a time when there was so much uncertainty, but we always believed in the concept and being more than profit driven. This is now coming to fruition and it’s great to have the Unlocking Ambition team at our backs.

“We can now look forward to supporting our customers and connecting our talent community with their exciting projects.”
