New Chairperson appointed by EI Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands

New Chairperson appointed by EI Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands

A new Chairperson is to take over at the helm of the Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands branch of the Energy Institute (EI), it was announced today.

Rebecca Allison FEI succeeds Laurie Mackay CEng FEI following the branch AGM on Tuesday, July 23rd. She is part of the leadership team at the Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), and will be the first woman to hold the EI position.

Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands is one of the two biggest EI branches. It has an active membership of around 2,000 industry representatives from across the region and runs a busy schedule of events ranging from technical meetings and industry visits to the flagship annual dinner at Aberdeen’s Marcliffe Hotel & Spa.

Rebecca Allison is Manager of the OGTC’s Asset Integrity Solution Centre, where she leads a team to identify and appraise the relevance, readiness and accessibility of key technologies.  She has more than 20 years of experience in the sector, including delivery of complex projects that address the challenges of mature basin asset integrity.

Commenting on her appointment, Rebecca Allison said: “I look forward to playing a part in progressing the excellent work the EI has been doing locally for many years.  The branch has built up an excellent representation of local industry and academia who are brought together by the work of the EI.  I am very grateful to Laurie and the rest of the team for their efforts in getting the branch to where it is today, and I look forward to building on their hard work.”

Outgoing chairman Laurie Mackay CEng FEI said: “I would sum up my tenure as a small but effective contribution to the book of energy. It was a singular privilege and honour to lead the branch through challenging economic times towards an enterprising horizon. Supporting our primary school educators has been and remains paramount - enthusing STEM subjects and careers among the next generations.

“I’m particularly pleased that we now have Rebecca at the helm, the first female Chairperson to hold the position. The transition of leadership brings fresh prospects and ideas that can drive and inspire future generations to be the best they can be.”
