Texo Compliance launches new Minerva Competency Management System

Oil and Gas regulators are increasingly putting more pressure on organisations in the sector to prove that their people are competent. There are many definitions for the term ‘competency’ but common amongst them is that of ‘ability’, being one of the key components along with knowledge and skills that encapsulate what a competency is. For this reason, Oil and Gas regulators are driving the need for organisations to prove that their people are competent. Competency and training are two very separate topics although they go hand in hand, training does not equal competence.

Solving Operational Compliance Challenges

Texo Compliance has developed a competence assurance model for oil and gas, energy and petro-chem related companies that minimises the impact of competence assurance programs on day-to-day operational activities but maximises knowledge capture. ‘Minerva’, through its ‘live-link’ technology is designed as an effective way to develop and maintain employee competence, such that every employee is able to demonstrate knowledge, skill and the ability to perform their job role safely, successfully and consistently.

The ‘Minerva’ Training and Competence Management System, has been developed to specifically mange training and competence assurance processes in operational environments.

The system works by:

  • Utilising a cloud/web-based system
  • Real time viewing and defined percentages of competencies
  • A system of controlling interim competence
  • Using Zone 1 Ex Rated equipment to video capture assessments and ‘Live-link’ technology (negating the need for onsite assessment)

Key features of the system include:

Competence Records Online
Password Protected
Real Time Progress Reporting
Client Oriented (for their specific operations)
Wide Ranging Experience
Intelligent IT Systems

Solving Operational Compliance Challenges

By opting for on-the-job evaluations, costs can be reduced dramatically. When planning for training personnel costs to be considered are:

  • Staff traveling overseas for evaluation
  • Travel and accommodation
  • Administrative man-hours spent arranging visas and travel etc

Conducting the Evaluation Process on-the job permits the involvement and support of the individual’s line manager and other key personnel - this may not be possible overseas.
The ‘Minerva’ process recognises and builds upon existing knowledge, skills and experience. The evaluation process increases motivation amongst employees and helps to develop a more flexible workforce with an increased ability to cope with change.

Knowledge capture is enhanced with knowledge and learning remaining on site as part of organisational memory. The process recognises and builds upon existing knowledge, skills and experience.
