Global Engineering and Construction (Global E&C), Scotland’s leading engineering, procurement and construction service provider to the oil and gas industry, has appointed Derek Thomson as its new Director of Projects to support the strategic growth plans of the company.
Thomson joins Global E&C from Worley, having held various positions during his six years and most recently as Operations Director for the last two years where he played a leading role in projects and contracts for the Upstream, Midstream and LNG Integrated Solutions UK business.
With over 25 years in the industry and experience within organisations across both the Exploration and Production (E&P) and EPC service providers, with a strong focus on leading major projects for the oil and gas industry, Derek’s focus will be growing this division of the business that has seen increasing interest from its customer base.
As the only brownfield focused EPC provider to the UKCS, Global E&C is well positioned to support its oil and gas customer base with the essential skills to enhance asset performance and provide the best solutions to help maximise oil recovery and accelerate energy transition.
Global E&C’s CEO, Terry Allan, believes Derek will add significant value to the strategic progression of the company and commented: “‘we’re delighted to welcome Derek into our business, especially at such an important time as the market recovers and we continue momentum as a progressive EPC contractor.
We are absolutely committed to nurturing our dynamic culture and, while bringing a wealth of experience and technical know-how, Derek joins with the right mindset of fresh thinking needed to challenge and further improve the way we operate.
We have a fantastic team and key appointments, like Derek, are important to supplement our existing strengths. I’m looking forward to working with Derek’s and am confident his vast knowledge will be extremely beneficial to our teams and to our customers.”
In the course of his career, Derek has held a number of leadership roles in support of the oil and gas industry. As well as his current role with Global E&C, Derek is also currently Co-Chair on the Safe Working Essentials workgroup within Step Change in Safety – a member-led organisation working to make the UK the safest oil and gas province in the world in which to work.
On joining Global E&C, Derek commented: ‘I’m delighted to be joining at such an exciting phase for Global E&C. Whilst COVID19 has impacted many businesses, including our own, Global E&C has continued to accelerate its culture of challenging the norm, finding new ways to innovate and strengthen its digital journey and apply the necessary technical advantages we need for the industry to genuinely react at pace to the needs of our customers.’
