Energy companies team up with University to offer scholarships

Energy companies Equinor and Harbour Energy are offering scholarships to the University of Aberdeen’s MSc programme in Integrated Petroleum Geoscience.

There are two scholarships on offer – one from each company – each covering tuition fees with living allowance for the course starting in September.

Running since 1973, the Integrated Petroleum Geosciences MSc is based within the University’s School of Geosciences and is internationally regarded as one of the top vocational training pathways into the energy industry.  It focuses on all aspects of upstream geoscience including exploration, field appraisal and development, maximising recovery from mature fields, and subsurface storage.

The programme receives detailed input and support from industry, with teaching closely aligned to industry practices, ensuring that graduates are highly sought after by employers.

These close ties with industry also ensure the course remains current and relevant to sector ambitions, particularly in the move towards net zero.

Rachel Brackenridge, MSc Integrated Petroleum Geoscience Programme Director, said: “We are delighted to team up with Equinor and Harbour Energy to offer these scholarships, which will give two talented students the chance to study on our world-renowned MSc in Integrated Petroleum Geoscience.

“Balancing our energy security with net zero targets is a critical issue for the energy sector, and scholarships help ensure that talented students have the chance to enter this dynamic industry and make a real contribution.

“Our close ties with industry means that our teaching remans relevant to the needs of companies – this is especially important within the context of the sector’s net zero ambitions, with many of the skills we teach directly transferable to jobs that are driving the energy transition.”
