Drilling services specialist NXG secures API certification

NXG, the drilling technology and services specialist, has secured the American Petroleum Institute (API) 7-1 accreditation – an internationally-recognised certification.

NXG, which has its head office in Aberdeen and a machine shop near Peterhead, successfully demonstrated its quality management systems met all criteria set out by API. The accolade enhances NXG’s credentials in the drilling tools manufacturing and repair sector.

The company’s tool rental division operates out of Altens, Aberdeen, while service, repair and manufacturing is run from a one-acre site at Longside, near Peterhead. NXG has a staff of 25 in total and plans to add 10 more to the team by the end of the year.

Mark Stephen, operations director at NXG, said: “The attainment of a world-leading certification is a testament to the capability of the NXG team and our quality management systems. This validation by API gives our customers even greater assurance with regards to the quality and standard of our offering.”

In-keeping with its next generation ethos, NXG has distinguished itself from other service providers in the market with a series of patented technological innovations aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency.

These include its multi-activation circulation sub, its hole cleaning sub and its hole cleaning heavyweight drillpipe. NXG has patents pending for its state-of-the-art hole openers, torque reduction sub and reamers.

Mark added: “We are looking to extend our product lines by manufacturing advanced solutions in-house as well as continuing to support the repair and reworking of drilling applications.

“As a UK manufacturing business, we have been delighted by a rise in the number of enquiries from global oilfield service companies in recent weeks. We believe this is due to our innovative and integrated approach, from the quality of our manufacturing to the supply of equipment through a smarter approach to logistics.”

NXG also manufactures, repairs and supplies traditional bottom-hole assembly (BHA) equipment such as stabilisers and drill collars.

The business has invested more than £2m in the past three years in its facilities and infrastructure. The investment includes new handling equipment and CNC machines at the Longside base.

NXG has contracts in place with major oilfield service companies and, as a result, its equipment is used in more than 50 countries.

The company also has bases in Dubai to serve the Middle East market and Thailand to support the requirements of client operations in South East Asia, with additional locations currently being identified for new NXG sites.
