Drilling sector takes centre stage at Real Projects event

Complex drilling projects will be the topic of discussion at an interactive session in Aberdeen next week (June 27).

Henny Gunawan, senior drilling engineer, and Lien Ta, i-Drill engineer, both of Schlumberger, will present at the latest Real Projects event at the University of Aberdeen on Thursday (June 27).

Organised by social enterprise organisation AFBE-UK Scotland, Real Projects gives students and recent graduates a greater insight into the inner workings of the energy sector.

The session, entitled Innovative Technique for Drill String Fatigue Management, takes place at the New Kings Building (room NK 14) on Thursday, June 27 (6.30pm-8pm). The talk will focus on the increasing complexity of wells being drilled that have the potential for high stresses on the drill string elements and the risk of twist off.

Lien Ta has held numerous engineering positions at Schlumberger in the past 13 years and has a broad range of expertise, including the optimisation of drilling performance through the use of 4-D modelling. She is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Chapter.

Henny has been leading planning and execution initiatives within Schlumberger’s Drilling Engineering Centres in the Asia, Africa and Europe. She is also an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Chapter.

Aberdeen-based AFBE-UK Scotland promotes diversity and inclusion. It encourages all young people, particularly those of black and minority ethic (BME) origin, to consider a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The group, which has engaged with thousands of young people across Aberdeen, was established in 2011. Earlier this year, it held its first event in Edinburgh.

The organisation has two other engagement programmes: its schools programme, NextGen, in which industry professionals give up their time to highlight engineering as a career choice to pupils, and Transition, which gives students and recent graduates practical career advice through talks, CV reviews and mock interviews.
