CNR International helps Maggie’s Aberdeen deliver vital care to cancer patients

Major North Sea operator CNR International (UK) Limited is helping cancer support charity Maggie’s Aberdeen provide care to those affected by the illness by donating £5,000 to help fund the centre.

The company has donated the cost of running the centre, which is based in the grounds of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, for two days, meaning the charity can continue to provide support for those diagnosed with cancer, as well as their family and friends.

Barry Duncan, CNR International’s Vice President & Finance Director, said: “While it’s been an uncertain time for many businesses and the wider economy, we want to continue to support this incredible charity. We are proud to support our local Maggie’s centre and the excellent work they do.”

Richard Stewart, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Aberdeen, said: “Every day is important at Maggie’s. We never know who will walk through the door, but we know for sure that whoever it is, they will need our support, and we will be able to help them.

“That’s why we are delighted CNR International has chosen to support us. We rely entirely on voluntary donations to allow us to keep on developing our unique programme of support for people living with cancer.

“As a fundraiser my challenge each year is to secure funding to pay for every day the centre is open, and this gift takes us closer to that goal. It means we can be here for local people when they need us and sadly delays to cancer diagnosis and treatment mean there is a growing trend of people with more urgent and complex support needs.”

The professional team at Maggie’s supports those complex needs by offering free practical and emotional support for everyone living with cancer, as well as their family and friends.

The centre offers a variety of services that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing. This includes access to cancer support specialists, a psychologist and a benefits advisor, as well as groups and workshops. The charity also signposts practical ways to live better with cancer with advice ranging from exercise to nutrition.

CNR’s donation comes following the successful return of the Maggie’s Aberdeen Culture Crawl in September, which saw more than 300 walkers raise more than £63,000 for the charity, while around 80 golfers took to the fairways at Deeside Golf Club for the charity’s annual golf day, raising £30,000.
