Aberdeen management consultancy hosts first-of-its-kind sales conference for the energy industry

DoqaruCon, Aberdeen’s first sales development conference took place Thursday 5th March at P&J Live @ TECA with 200 delegates in attendance.

The conference was the creation of Aberdeen-based management consultancy, Doqaru. Yekemi Otaru, Co-Founder and Director at the firm, said: “It’s been a long few months planning this conference. We had everything hit us up to a few hours before – including the coronavirus and Flybe’s collapse, which meant some of the delegates and speakers couldn’t make it. Yet, we’ve had the most amazing feedback! Sarah Downs, our co-founder and I are delighted with the outcome. A week later, we’re still seeing text messages, emails and social media posts about how positively the conference impacted DoqaruCon delegates.”

The focus of the conference was to share insights on creating high impact sales and company strategy in the energy sector. There were 15 exhibitors and 29 speakers. Keynote speakers were Mark Wright, Rob Moore, Chris Paton, Yekemi Otaru, Joseph Di Bennardo and Lee (Frank) Spencer.

Mark Wright, “I love being in Aberdeen and it was an incredible conference. The businesses that came were there because they want to be the best versions of themselves. That’s amazing to see!”

“We wanted to address several underlining challenges in our industry by bringing together like-minded people in a positive way. The conference content covered sales leadership, digital marketing and we touched on more human issues such as dealing with rejection, gratitude and resilience,” notes Sarah Downs, Co-founder and Director at Doqaru.

DoqaruCon created live conversation through the industry specific panel sessions covering strategy, relationship, culture and technology. Delegate and speaker companies included Wood, Baker Hughes, KCA Deutag and Envoy Group among many others. Delegates were also able to get answers to their questions in real-time using Doqaru’s brand new app created by Expert Apps.

At the event, over £1500 was raised for two local charities, Sue Ryder Dee View Court and Aberdeen Foyer. Emma Leiper Finlayson, Capital Appeal Manager at Sue Ryder said after the event, “I have learned so many practical skills in strategy, social media, but above all I’ve been inspired, enthused and blown away by how I feel.”

“The one thing that stuck with me was the last keynote speech from Lee (Frank) Spencer, The Rowing Marine, who lost his leg in an accident, but he says no disability should hold you back. It’s about being amazing and not letting your disability restrict you and that’s exactly what Dee View Court and the amazing team of nurses and carers help make possible for all the people that live there. So, thank you Doqaru!”

DoqaruCon will be making a return with a new theme in 2021. Planning has already started due to the amazing feedback received.
