Total, Ørsted, Elicio to bid together in Dunkirk offshore wind tender

Danish offshore wind major Ørsted A/S and French oil and gas giant Total are joining Belgium's Elicio to bid as an industrial consortium in the Dunkirk offshore wind tender.

The partners will submit a joint bid for a park of up to 600 MW off the coast of Dunkirk, northern France, Total said today.

Elicio has been preselected by the French Energy Regulatory Commission to compete in the tender. Total said its participation is in line with its strategy to develop low-carbon electricity projects in Europe.

“Our recognized offshore oil and gas know-how combined with Ørsted market-leading expertise across the offshore wind energy value chain, as well as that of Elicio, an experienced developer qualified from the beginning of the bid, provide a solid foundation for success of a safe and competitive project,” said Philippe Sauquet, president Gas, Renewables and Power at Total.

A winner in the tender is expected to be selected in mid-2019, with the goal of commissioning the wind farm in 2022. Among the bidders is also the Vents de Dunkerque consortium formed by Dutch utility Eneco, compatriot Van Oord, Canada’s Boralex and Diamond Generating Europe, a unit of Mitsubishi Corp, and an industrial partnership named Moulins de Flandre, comprising oil major Royal Dutch Shell Plc, France’s Quadran and Belgian marine contractor DEME.
