Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA toasted this week to a successful 2019 with a record 1.2 GW of wind turbine installations in Spain.
After tallying the results, the company said its 375 turbines erected across Spain accounted for 75% of the total installed wind capacity in the country.
“Three out of four turbines installed in Spain in 2019 were Siemens Gamesa turbines, which shows how we are consolidating our leadership in Spain,” CEO Onshore SE&A Roberto Sabalza said in a statement.
Last year’s record represents a more than a five-fold increase compared to 217 MW of installation in 2018 and a meagre 29 MW in 2017.
More than 80% of all machines supplied to the Spanish market belonged to one turbine model -- the SG 3.4-132, with a 132-metre rotor diameter and over 3 MW in nominal power, Siemens Gamesa said.
The turbines were delivered to 15 customers for 30 wind projects across the Spanish regions of Aragon, Andalusia Galicia, Castile and Leon and Navarre.
