REACTION: Ofgem price control settlements

Energy regulator Ofgem has published its settlements for the next network price control, known as RIIO-2, which will come into effect next year and run for five years until 2026.

Responding, Cara Dalziel, Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said:

"The development of an electricity network which can enable customers to access the clean power generated by Scotland’s renewable energy industry is fundamental if the UK is to meet its challenging net-zero goals. As energy regulator, Ofgem should be at the heart of that development.

"Today’s publication from Ofgem contains welcome progress on a number of issues. The electricity network is a key enabler of our climate ambitions and its improvement should be enabled in line with, or preferably ahead of, need. Of particular note in today’s announcement, therefore, is Ofgem’s decision to introduce greater agility into uncertainty mechanisms to ensure necessary investment in infrastructure is not delayed.

"However, significant work remains if the UK is to deliver on its climate commitments using renewable energy technologies like onshore and offshore wind which are already delivering economic benefit and cutting carbon emissions across the country.

"Net-zero should be central to every decision made by both Ofgem, as a facilitator of development, and government more generally, and we look forward to working with network companies and Ofgem to ensure RIIO-2 facilitates the vital transition to a decarbonised energy system with renewables at its heart."
