NUDGE Putting People First With Latest Announcement

NUDGE, the recently launched digital marketplace, aimed specifically at providing flexible freelance talent to the Energy sector, have announced that they have been granted B_Corp (Pending) Status, the first business in the Scottish Energy Sector to achieve this recognition.

The B(enefit)_Corp movement was created by a group of individuals in the US who, following a number of high profile scandals, were left thinking that there must be a better way for businesses to operate.

The B_Corp was born with the aim of building businesses as a force for good and rather than having solely the shareholders interests at heart they would consider all stakeholders, think of it as conscious capitalism.

To achieve B_Corp status businesses are assessed against five specific areas: governance, workers, customers, environment and community, with the aim of achieving The B_Corp certification widely referred to as ‘the highest standard for socially responsible businesses’.

Organisations such as Innocent Smoothies, Patagonia, Ben and Jerry’s and most recently BrewDog are proof that it can be done. These organisations are employee owned, 11 times more likely to be carbon neutral, hire more from disadvantaged communities, and yet are hugely successful both in terms of profit and driving change.

To date however there are very few in Scotland that have obtained the status, around a dozen in total and zero in the energy sector.

Nudge wants to try change that and have started their own journey. In the words of Founder, Darren Nicol, “At Nudge’s very core our business is about people, finding them rewarding work and supporting them whilst they make a personal transition in the energy transformation, the B_Corp approach is just a great fit, because it’s all about people, planet and purpose”.
