New Oilfield Production Chemistry Training Course

New Oilfield Production Chemistry Training Course

Newly established training company, Production Chemistry Training Ltd, is launching new courses providing oilfield production chemistry training for engineers and non-chemists.

This will include a variety of topics including what production chemistry is and how it integrates with other oilfield areas. Specific subjects like flow assurance (wax, asphaltenes, hydrates and scale), integrity (including corrosion, microbiology, souring), phase separation and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) will be covered.

It will provide an overview of what a Production Chemist does, how to interpret safety data sheets, information on sampling and monitoring strategies, the various analytical techniques used, chemical management and environmental classification, the interface with chemical vendors and laboratory design.  In addition, it will also address the impact of energy transition to net zero and how this effects production chemistry.

Stephen Heath, Technical Director, commented: “Production chemistry supports and sustains oil and gas production. The impact of chemicals on the process can be very complex and understanding their application and interaction is essential for optimal production. Experience has shown that problems during operation increase with the number of chemicals used in the system and everything needs to be kept in balance.

We are very excited to be launching this course which will provide a holistic overview of oilfield chemistry. It is specifically designed for engineers and non-chemists so a knowledge of chemistry is not required. However, there will be additional more in-depth courses added over time which will investigate specific areas of production chemistry in more detail for chemists just beginning their oilfield careers and those who already have a chemistry background.”

Business Development Director, Susan Caddell added “We felt that there has been a loss of knowledge from the industry over the past few years due to market conditions and of course, the pandemic. With new engineers and chemists coming into the industry, we felt this would help them understand the role of production chemistry in the sector”

Bookings for the two-day monthly courses, the first of which will be held on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th November with the next taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday December with other dates for 2023 being announced shortly. Online courses can also be delivered.
