New EIC ASEAN membership category unveiled at inaugural EIC Connect Energy Thailand

Membership will enable energy project and asset suppliers to win work across South East Asia

The EIC, the leading trade association for companies that supply goods and service to the energy industries worldwide, officially launched its new ASEAN membership category at the first-ever EIC Connect Energy Thailand conference held on 16 May in Bangkok.

EIC ASEAN membership is designed for companies who want to win work across the full range of energy sectors, including oil and gas, power, nuclear and renewables, covering Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Key features of ASEAN membership are access to over 700 energy projects, worth a total of US$1.6tn, being tracked on EICDataStream, the EIC’s CAPEX projects database, as well over 1,000 operational energy facilities across the region on EICAssetMap, the EIC’s O&M database. These databases will support EIC ASEAN members to win work on energy projects and facilities across South East Asia.

EIC ASEAN members will receive regional market intelligence reports and priority booking on EIC events and EIC-hosted UK pavilions at all major energy events held in the ASEAN countries including Oil & Gas Asia.

Members will also benefit from the Kuala Lumpur EICLaunchPad service, allowing them to use the office, conference and meeting facilities available at the EIC’s Malaysia headquarters; an ideal solution for companies looking for a low-cost, low-risk entry into the Malaysian and wider ASEAN markets.

EIC Connect events take place all over the world and are designed to enable suppliers and operators and contractors to meet and discuss how they can work together on energy projects in the local region.

Thailand’s Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Dr Sarawut Kaewtathip officially opened the event. He was joined by 25 major operators and contractors active in Thailand including the national oil company PTTEP, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), GE, Mott MacDonald, Ophir Energy and Pöyry. They spoke about their upcoming projects’ supplier requirements and took part in more than 150 private one-to-one appointments with delegates to discuss their procurements processes, and products and services they need for their future developments.

Commenting on the event EIC Head of Asia Pacific Azman Nasir said, ‘I am delighted to say that the first-ever EIC Connect event in Thailand was a great success.

‘The feedback I’ve had from the delegates is very positive, with lots of them saying that arranging private meetings with senior buyers from so many major energy companies would normally take months if not years, and here they have done it all in one day.

‘There was a lot of interest about our newest membership category. If you want to win work on energy projects in the ASEAN region, then EIC ASEAN membership is for you. We provide all the data, contacts and practical advice and assistance that you need to grow your business in South East Asia.’
