Ministers and industry leaders to link energy transition aspirations with actual opportunities at Energy Exports Conference

The high-level panel keynote plenary speakers at EEC 2021 will talk frankly about the challenges facing the sector in a decarbonising energy landscape

Sir Ian Wood KT GBE, Chairman of Opportunity North East (ONE) and Energy Transition Zone Ltd, Talal Al-Marri, President and CEO at Aramco Europe, and the Rt. Hon. Graham Stuart MP, UK Minister for Exports are among a few of the keynote speakers confirmed for next week’s virtual Energy Exports Conference.

More than 1,000 British companies will join the discussion on energy opportunities in all energy sectors, but with a special focus on renewables and energy transition technologies in the year of COP26.

Opening the four-day virtual exhibition and conference on Monday 14th June will be industry legend and Wood Group founder Sir Ian Wood, who will be joined by Aramco Europe’s figurehead Talal Al-Marri.

This high-level panel discussion will focus on the preparations, priorities and ambitions for COP26 in relation to the energy sector, including the impact of energy transition on policy, strategy and investment decisions.

Sir Ian Wood KT GBE said: I’m looking forward to delivering the keynote address at this year’s Energy Exports Conference which takes place at a crucial time for the industry as we seek to capitalise on the significant opportunities that energy transition will bring.

“The North East of Scotland, through a world-class oil and gas industry, has made an invaluable contribution to the UK’s energy requirements over the last 50 years.  In my remarks I will be outlining why, as this industry matures, we must progress ways to harness and retain our region’s existing skills set whilst securing opportunities for new jobs and investment as part of the green recovery and meeting the net zero ambition.”

Also joining the session will be the Chief Executives at EEC organisers, Energy Industries Council (EIC) and UK Export Finance, with Stuart Broadley and Louis Taylor discussing the changing priorities and technologies for energy companies and how we manage the supply chain transition.

The Rt. Hon. Graham Stuart MP, UK Minister for Exports, Jon Andre Lokke, CEO at Nel Hydrogen, Sian Lloyd Rees, Head of UK and SVP Europe & Africa at Aker Solutions Ltd, and Duncan Clark, SVP and Head of UK at Ørsted will round off the event on Thursday 17th June during the Industry Plenary session.

This closing keynote panel session will meet to discuss the changing international marketplace due to Energy Transition and COVID-19; how boardroom priorities are changing due to investor pressure; diversification trends & drivers; and how to translate industry soundbites into clear implementation plans.

Other confirmed speakers across the four days will include bp, Shell, PETRONAS, Equinor, Worley, SNC-Lavalin, Bechtel, Wood, Aker Carbon Capture, Doosan, Northland Power, Vineyard Wind, and Storengy.

Stuart Broadley, EIC CEO, said: “In its third year, the Energy Exports Conference is now a must-attend event for the world’s key energy market decision makers, project developers, technology innovators and supply chain exporters, and never more so than in this year of COP26.”

The Energy Exports Conference 2021 will be joined by Petrofac as its leading sponsor, the leading international service provider to the energy industry, and Media Partners OGV Energy and Energy Voice.

The event, now in its third year, is an energy export-focused initiative led by the Energy Industries Council (EIC) and its organising partners Aberdeen City Council, Decom North Sea, Department for International Trade (DIT), Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), OGUK, Oil & Gas Authority (OGA), Opportunity North East (ONE), Scottish Development International (SDI), Scottish Enterprise (SE) and UK Export Finance (UKEF) and supported by platinum sponsor Petrofac.
