GDi’s pioneering technology paves the way for a new era of inspection and asset management

Aberdeen-based GDi have collaborated with the OGTC and a group of North Sea operators to advance the development of a unique and worlds first technology which leverages the vast quantities of data gathered via laser scanning to improve quality beyond traditional visual inspections that are usually adopted by operators.

Whether it is an entire asset or specific equipment, both internal and external visual inspections can take place safely and efficiently, with the ability to quantify conditions of equipment remotely from a desktop.

Along with GDI’s bespoke access solutions the cost and risk associated with access solutions such as scaffolding and rope access can be removed.

Gareth McIntyre (Director at GDi) said: “The data collected via laser scanning is vital for engineering purposes whether it is small repairs or large projects and modifications. Now, utilising our technology, this data can be used to ascertain equipment condition offering a game changing approach to integrity management. When we first explored the development of this technology we didn’t fully anticipate how much value could be generated.  This was a worlds first application and we have seen some movement subsequently from other service providers who are also attempting to replicate.  This is an interesting time for us and the inspection industry and we hope we can continue to development this technology and deliver significant value to our clients/customers. As a company that utilises the latest technology to support clients in maximising and maintaining their assets, we believe there is substantial scope to significantly grow our business into the foreseeable future.”
