Event Celebrates Importance of Innovation in Embracing Change

Houston is open for business and ready to provide an open collaborative environment for Scottish companies seeking to expand their corporate horizons. That was the message from a major international business event which took place online this week.

Held in association with the Greater Houston Partnership and G-Tech Innovation Centre/Hampco, primary threads of the ninth annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway were change and the need to embrace energy transition using a mosaic of innovative technical and operational solutions.

Taking the event “out of this world” on day three was a focus on aerospace when space-to-ground and ground-to-space knowledge sharing and the need to look beyond sector-based verticals in development were among the themes explored.

Over three sessions on consecutive days, the event used presentations, Q&A and digital networking formats to examine the bridge across the Atlantic and highlighted successes and opportunities in sectors such as subsea, aerospace and energy transition.

For the second year running, the popular annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway went online to deliver the latest market updates, using a multimedia approach to create knowledge sharing opportunities for delegates around the world.

Commenting on the ninth annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway, event creator Brett Jackson said:

“Facilitating the creation and strengthening of business connections has never been more important than it is during these continuing unprecedented operating conditions and we are grateful to everyone who supported us is so many ways.

“The success of this year’s Aberdeen-Houston Gateway now paves the way for the roll-out of the rest of our 2021 series of events which will include sessions focusing on other key locations such as Norway and Guyana.”

Debut participant Kevin McBarron, CEO of Sulmara Subsea added: “This event provided an important platform for us to shine a light on offshore survey and inspection services and how innovation (methodology as well as technology) can be a tool in transitioning service delivery in the oil and gas sector to opportunities in the offshore wind sector.

“Innovation in technology and methodology has always been in the DNA of oil and gas exploration – the fact that this innovation must now also come with a lower carbon footprint is relatively new and is gathering pace and Sulmara Subsea is very much on at the forefront of that journey.”

Also taking part was Gordon Bruce, Director at Insite Specialist Services. He added: “It was an absolute pleasure to be part of this event, and the opportunity to be involved was too good to miss especially with so many sectors involved. It gave us important insights into a key target marketplace and facilitated engagement with other innovative solution providers as well as giving a platform for us to explain what we do and how we can provide the most natural solution for all indoor environments, no matter where.”

The Aberdeen-Houston Gateway will be supported by Aberdeen City Council, BoyarMiller, G-Tech Innovation Centre, Hampco, Katy Area Economic Development Council, McGill & Associates, PKF Texas, The British Consulate-General Houston, The Energy Industries Council, The Greater Houston Partnership, Scottish Development International, TradeMark Insurance.
