Diversity is the winning formula for data specialist Imrandd

Diversity is the winning formula for data specialist Imrandd

Technology, data intelligence and engineering company, Imrandd scooped Company of the Year award alongside joint winners, Baker Hughes at last night’s prestigious AFBE-UK Scotland (Association for Bme Engineers) Awards and Gala in Aberdeen.

This category encourages and recognises an outstanding company in the area of diversity and inclusion. Imrandd, a progressive and innovative SME, was shortlisted alongside Spirit Energy and Baker Hughes.

Imrandd was launched five years ago, and in that time has doubled its revenue year on year. The leadership team truly believes that having a diverse workforce has resulted in creating a business that is agile and much more adaptable when it comes to solving customers’ problems. From day one the focus has always been on employing and retaining the best people for the role, regardless of ethnicity, age or gender.

  • 40% of its workforce is female, more than double the global industry average
    • 75% of funded R&D projects are led by women
  • 40% of the workforce is Bme
  • 40% of the workforce are primary care givers to children under 18
  • The average age of its workforce 40

Innes Auchterlonie, Imrandd’s Chief Executive Officer said: “Our industry is in late life and still faces challenges with a marginalised workforce of a certain age and gender. Without diversity and new, innovative ways of thinking the opportunity for transformation and long-term sustainability will be missed. This is particularly true when it comes to environmental issues and energy transition.”

“We hope our approach influences more energy companies to make D&I a real focus. If a relatively small data analytics SME can continue to promote diversity across its workforce, then it’s logical to expect larger organisations to implement changes and apply a lasting commitment too.

Sripad Gopala Chief Operating Officer at Imrandd sums up the company’s ethos and commitment to diversity by saying:

“As a SME, Imrandd doesn’t have the same global mandates from the board, scrutiny from the media orpressure from the market/shareholders that many of our customers experience, however we always believe in doing what’s best, what’s honourable and what’s fair. Diversity isn’t a quick fix but it’s provided Imrandd with great foresight and the ability capitalise on many opportunities.

We’re delighted to share this win with Baker Hughes, an organisation that continues to pioneer diversity and inclusion throughout its global workforce and is implementing real and tangible changes to its operations.”

The four categories for the awards are the Outstanding Mentor, Young BME (black minority ethnic) Professional of the Year, Company of the Year and BME Leader of the Year. Colette Cohen OBE, the CEO of the Oil and Gas Technology Centre, will be the keynote speaker at the awards gathering. Previous winners include BP and Shell.

AFBE-UK Scotland (Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers Scotland) has supported pupils, students, graduates and industry professionals since it was established in 2011 as an offshoot to the London-based AFBE-UK. The group runs several programmes and workshops throughout the year with the aim of addressing the under-representation in various sectors, including engineering.
