Appetite for Business “humbled” to be in contention for national award

A leading Microsoft 365 technology consultancy is hoping to taste national success after being shortlisted for the regional finals of a prestigious awards programme.

Appetite for Business has been named as a finalist in the Entrepreneurial Spirit category as part of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards – with the ceremony to be held virtually on Wednesday, September 23.

Founded in 2013, the awards, in partnership with Starling Bank, celebrate the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs and businesses in the UK, regardless of size or turnover.

Previous award winners include the founders of BrewDog, Tangle Teezer, LADbible, ClearScore, and the Cambridge Satchel Company. This years’ judges include Hayley Parsons, who founded Go Compare, Cath Kidston, Lord Bilimoria of Cobra Beer, and Kanya King, founder of the MOBO awards.

The Aberdeen-based company will now go head-to-head with other contenders from Scotland and Northern Ireland before, potentially, progressing to the UK finals.

This recognition follows Appetite’s recent listing as one of the UK’s top 30 highest performing learning providers, for the second year running, by the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI). In addition, the business has been accredited as an LPI gold standard learning provider for the eighth consecutive year.

Founder and CEO, Sheryl Newman, commented: “Being selected as a regional finalist, amongst other amazing entrepreneurs, for the dedication and growth of our business is a huge accomplishment. It is especially welcome at a time when all businesses are facing daily challenges and working to survive and adapt.

“Our customers are at the heart of all that we do, and this is reflected in the personal service we provide and the customer loyalty we retain. I want to recognise my colleagues who have continued to work tirelessly during these unprecedented times; this is very much a team effort.

“There are some incredible stories, as well as several fantastic finalists from the north-east, so to receive this national recognition from some of the best names in the business is very humbling. Having the opportunity to benefit from the eco-system of business support that these prestigious awards provide, and the opportunity to connect with the other outstanding businesses shortlisted, is a reward in itself.”

Appetite for Business is a people-focused technology consultancy that specialises in Microsoft Office 365 and associated applications to support organisations achieve significant cost savings and process improvements through better understanding of how employees engage and interact with technology.

In 2018, Sheryl Newman was named Leader of the Year at the 2018 Scottish Women in Technology (SWiT) Awards in recognition of her commitment to inspiring other women into the technology sector.

She has won multiple awards in acknowledgment of her work to promote STEM-related opportunities for women, particularly in the energy sector. In September (2019), she collected the Business of the Year honour as part of the Association of Scottish Businesswomen (ASB) National Business Awards.
